Welcome to part 2 of the 5 Pillars Advanced Reiki Training!
In this section, you will explore how stress and trauma effect the nervous system, energy grids, and chakras of the body. As Reiki practitioners, it is vital that we not only understand the spiritual aspects of healing, but also the human dynamics of personality development. Our childhood experiences and armoring play a huge role in belief systems (throat chakra dynamics) and energy manifestation.
In this course we will address emotional healing from a psychological lens. Learn to clean your body and mind as you breathe through old frozen patterns of personality and flow into your higher awareness. As you dive into this section, I invite you to keep an open mind and feel what comes up for you in your own story.
How Trauma Works
When we encounter a chronically stressful or shocking experience, our sympathetic nervous system turns on, our energy freezes, digestion slows, and the emotional flow becomes incomplete. As these stressful experiences compound, we learn to armor, or cope, by developing a mask, or persona, which allows us to fit into society and survive in the world. However, underneath the cool, calm exterior, the nervous system is still charged with latent fear, anger, shame, anxiety, and undigested emotional material - often experienced as feelings of numbness, anxiety, depression, hyper-vigilance, overwhelm, or perfectionism.Â
Since unprocessed trauma and stress is stored in the body, it can show up in many ways: Insomnia, digestive problems, weight gain, chronic anxiety, addictions of all kinds, headaches, manic thinking, chronic pain (no matter how much bodywork is received), or a sense of feeling disconnected from ourselves. Many people don’t realize that it may be unresolved emotional material at the root of it.Â
FACTS AND COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT TRAUMA HEALING
What is Trauma?Â
Trauma is not only linked to acute events, like war, car accidents, or assault. Trauma is anything that is anything that is too much, too soon, or too fast for our nervous system to handle without becoming overwhelmed. This can take many forms such as a child feeling bullied at school, unsettled family life, or emotional neglect by their family at home. Or adult realities, such as severe work, death of a loved one, financial stress, or relationship disharmony.
What happens during trauma?
At the cellular level, the body experiences a surge of intense fight or flight energy and stress hormones. Our bodies need to feel safe and a sense that the threat is over in order for our nervous system to come back into a state of rest and balance. If the body doesn’t return to a neutral state, a stressor is long lasting, or the trauma is so severe or sudden we can go into a ‘freeze response,’ otherwise known as dorsal vagal shutdown. On the outside, the freeze response appears calm, but internally there is still a huge amount of fight or flight energy. A freeze response can look like dissociation, numbness, or even fainting. Being stuck in the freeze response is why we can still suffer from something that happened to us months, years, or even decades ago. Â
What is trauma healing?
Healing trauma is about going from ‘trying to survive’ to ‘thriving.’ It is about coming out of the freeze response in body and mind. It is about restoring the energy flow in the nervous system. It is about returning to a place we can we can connect with ourselves, feel relaxed, and present. Â
Is it too late to start releasing stored trauma?
Never. Our body and psyche’s are built to heal, and our nervous system patterns can change. We can come out of chronic freeze pattern no matter how deep or old our stored stress or trauma may be. It just takes courage, commitment, and a willingness to feel.
How can I heal my trauma?
There are many different approaches to to trauma healing. Some are more psychological and focus on a psychotherapy as a top down approach. Some focus more bottom up and focus on releasing trauma stored int he nervous system and body. And some focus on brain chemistry though medication.Â

Healing Physically & Nutritionally
It's harder to heal the mental thoughts and behavioral patterns when the physical body is struggling. In this first section you will learn powerful breathing techniques, mediation skills, and nutritional tools to craft a secure platform for health. Launch into healing with a firm foundation and watch the peace and calm start to flow back into life. It starts with making only ONE new choice...everyday.
Developmental Trauma & Self Care Practices
Most of our subconscious patterns are formulated in early childhood. Our earliest experiences are the lens in which we participate with the world, engage in trust, or learn to block ourselves off from joy out of fear. In this part of the training we will dive into psychological armoring patterns and learn to softly let them go. The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence.

What Do I Need to Start this section of the Reiki Training?
First: The willingness to open and shift. This course is deep, rich, and opens us up to vulnerable places that might still need tenderness. It's important to stick to the exercises and reach out if you need additional support. Second: A little time & Space. We recommend finding somewhere that is just for you to do this work. This can be as small as a closet or as grand as your own meditation room. A journal, blindfold, candle, and intense (Paulo Santo or Sage) is a great idea too. If you have a Spotify account, that is helpful for some of the meditations.
